Making your office HIPAA compliant can seem like a huge job--but when you have a few tips and tricks to try out, you might just find that it's easier than you thought. Today, we'll help you find easy, painless ways to make your print environment HIPAA compliant!

Security in the Modern World

Print security is a long-term goal. It's something you have to work at, something that has to change with the times--especially as the digital world gets more and more dangerous. Luckily, print security and HIPAA compliance don't have to be a chore. All you have to do is come up with ways to improve security without sacrificing efficiency and productivity. Sound too good to be true? Here are a few tips to help you do just that!

#1: Focus on hard drives.

Today's printers and copiers save a lot of data on their hard drives--which means that you have to wipe or destroy those hard drives before getting rid of your machines. Luckily, that's not too difficult to do. Just remember that hard drives can be a big problem if you overlook them!

#2: Remember real-world security.

Print security isn't just about what happens online. Your printers need to be safe in the real world, too. If possible, put printers in a location that can only be accessed by people with the right clearance--that way, no important documents fall into the wrong hands.

#3: Don't just hit "print."

Leaving documents on the printer tray, no matter where your printer is located, is a huge security risk. Instead, use secure print release software to make sure that the printer only releases a document once a PIN is entered or an ID card is scanned.
